New songs, new sound
Deathline. Tomorrow. The Good Ship, Wed 2nd December
My band Deathline return from our break with a bunch of new songs and a new sound at The Good Ship in Kilburn tomorrow, Wednesday 2nd December. Death surfers Suicide Party from Southampton headline. They are really good and have just come off a tour with 80's Matchbox.
Put on two pairs of shades and come and embrace the darkness.
Cake Noir
In a rather sweet twist, there will be beautiful Deathline cupcakes baked by our friend Kimberley at the gig. You better come! Also, the fourth band have just pulled out so we're the only London-based band playing which makes it all the more important that you come out and support us.
Pretty please!

Deathline
"Deathline are a female lead duo with a fine line in post artrock rumble that purrs like a new born kitten and shreds your skin like a tiger on speed. Kinda like a 21st century Sonny & Cher having lunch with The Raveonettes served by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' at Joy Division's greasy spoon cafe."

Dark Sparks
"Well, they'e certainly got the drama and drive of past mood pop heroes such as Echo and The Bunnymen and The Smiths but these boys bring an altogether more rambunctious attitude to their pop tones, with a healthy dose of grainy dissonance among the grandeur. Bullet in the Eye even manages to combine Editors-esque gloom with the vocal desperation of '80s post-punk demi-gods, Theatre of Hate and PiL. Let's hope they retain these fine qualities when the majors come a-knocking."

Update 3/12/09 - Photos and report
Weird gig was that. It was probably one of the wettest nights of the winter so far. Sheeting it down. I was quite literally soaked to the skin in the short walk between Brondesbury Overground station and the venue as I arrived for the soundcheck.
But that wasn't the only problem as two bands pulled out (openers Another Man's Army a few days before as they'd split, Dark Sparks on the evening itself, citing "swine flu") so it was just us and Suicide Party on the bill, making the venue hard to fill, especially as SP are based down in Southampton and only pulled in a few. Luckily we managed to draw a moderate crowd of people so the audience was reasonable. Just.
A shame as it was really good. Our new material went off really well; people really dug the new, heavier, darker sound which worked well in the claustrophobic pit that houses The Good Ship stage. Particular successes were Something is You and Sweden v Poland and the harder material from SixtyNine that rounded off the set sat well with the new stuff. It was the best gig we've done for over a year, I think.
Headliners Suicide Party, who we've known for a while now and with whom we've become friends, were white hot (or rather black hot) with their dark psych surf sound now complemented by a hard New Wave undercurrent. They are really one to watch out for if they can break out of the local Hampshire scene.
Finally Kimberley's lovely rock noir cupcakes went down really well. It was a weird but very satisfying night. Kimberley's sister Tamara took some great photos of us. The ones of Suicide Party are by me. You can also see the whole set on flickr.
We play next at 93 Feet East on Brick Lane on January 26th. It's a benefit for the charity Youth Music. Free entry. Will be good.
